Metro Police have confirmed the arrest of two men suspected of rock throwing on a pedestrian bridge on the N2 bridge near Queen Nandi Drive-Inanda Road, reports the Northglen News.
Metro spokesman‚ Superintendent Parboo Sewpersad‚ confirmed that members of Metro Police and the K9 Unit detained the men while patrolling on the route.
“One of the men had a large boulder in his hand and the pair were waiting on the bridge. Both men were arrested and taken through to Greenwood Park police station,” he said.
Sewpersad said the pair were handed over to police from Greenwood Park. He urged motorists to contact Metro on 031 361 0000 or call 10111 should they see anyone suspicious standing on bridges over freeways.
According to KZN police, the suspects also had a knife and gloves on.

In a concerted joint effort to curb alarming incidents of rock throwing at bridges, Durban Metro Police and other law enforcement agencies, including the South African Police Service and Road Traffic Inspectorate have beefed up patrols along key routes and bridges.
eThekwini Municipality deputy mayor Fawzia Peer said it was part of a more sustainable long-term solution to the problem.
“The City is looking at constructing steel cages over bridges, erecting closed-circuit television cameras and improving lights on bridges. This will be subject to normal council procedures and availability of funding.”
There have been more than six rock throwing incidents, one of which resulted in the tragic deaths of Amina Haffejee, 16, and her brother Abdur Raheem, 7, who died when a boulder struck the windscreen of the car they were travelling in on the N2.
