Child grazed by bullet in La Mercy robbery

The robbers gained access to the house on the pretext of wanting information about the school that runs on the property

A nine-year-old boy had a brush with death when he was shot at during a robbery in La Mercy, Tongaat this afternoon (Saturday).
Emergency Control SA’s Ishmail Mitha said five armed robbers in a red Golf 5 with an NT registration approached the house in Eden Rose Walk which also runs as a Montessori school.
“The men went the the house under the pretext of getting information about admission to the school. They then pulled out their firearms.”
The five people in the house, two adults and three children, locked themselves in a room and screamed for help.
“The neighbours heard their screams and the robbers fled to the car, but not before making off with laptops and other valuables.
“As they were driving away, they opened fire on the house. The nine-year-old boy had been standing on the balcony and was grazed by one of the bullets,” said Mitha.
He has been taken to hospital for a check-up.
