The Dube tribal court in Gledhow was set alight last Wednesday morning.
The motive behind the arson is unknown but Chief Khulekani Dube said he suspects that those behind the fire had intended to destroy documents that were kept in his secretary’s office.
He said the damaged caused by the fire is around R20 000.
“We were still sleeping when we heard my nephew shouting, telling us to come out, the court is on fire. We were able to extinguish the fire before it destroyed the entire court and saved many of the files, “said Dube.

His nephew said he saw people running away from the blaze.
The mobile court was delivered to the chief last year and the furniture arrived only six months ago.
