KwaDukuza man held hostage in his bathroom

The robbers used a child to break into the home in Stanger on Tuesday evening.

Stanger resident Devan Moodley was held hostage in his bathroom last night (Tuesday) while robbers helped themselves to over R5 000 in valuables after breaking into his home.

According to Moodley’s sister, Premi, two men and a child arrived at their family home while Devan was visiting the neighbour.

The child allegedly climbed through a window to unlock the door.

While the men were raiding the house, Devan arrived home and was taken to the bathroom, where he was locked inside.

“Last weekend a piece of wood was used to break the window. We were in the house when we heard a cracking sound and we saw a man running away,” said Premi.

“We called the police but they did not arrive.”

She suspects that the people who smashed the window last weekend were the same people who broke into their home last night.

KwaDukuza SAPS spokesperson, Constable Sibusiso Khuzwayo, said police are investigating a case of robbery.

He said they will also investigate the claim that the police did not respond when they were previously contacted by the family last weekend.
