Man jailed for raping stepdaughter

The child's mother was attending a funeral in the Eastern Cape when he forced himself on her.

The KwaDukuza Regional Court sentenced two rapists to a combined 35 years in prison on Tuesday.

Zolani Mkwedini (41) was sentenced to 15 years in jail for raping his 12-year-old stepdaughter in Shayamoya, while Mbhekiseni Zulu received 20 years for raping a 32-year-old woman in Etete.

Ilembe cluster SAPS spokesperson Sibusiso Khuzwayo, said Mkwedini raped his stepdaughter in December 2016.

“According to the victim, her stepfather raped her in his house while her mother was attending a funeral in the Eastern Cape. She said Mkwedini threatened her with a cane knife.”

Zulu raped the Etete woman in January last year. The victim was walking to her aunt’s house when Zulu forced her into the nearby bushes.

“Following the incident she phoned her husband to inform him. According to his statement, the woman fainted after telling him the story.”

Zulu was arrested after he was spotted by the woman at the Shakaskraal Clinic.
