The man allegedly responsible for ransacking a Salt Rock home and making off with valuables earlier today was tracked down and arrested on Tuesday evening.
According to Umhlali SAPS captain Vinny Pillay, a 30-year-old Malawian man from Shaka’s Head, who was working as a gardener, arrived at his employer’s home at around 9am and informed the domestic worker he needed access to the home to repair some pipes.

“When the domestic worker opened the door the gardener caught her and pushed her into the bathroom.
“He gagged her, punched her in her face, tied her hands and asked her not to scream,” said Pillay.
He then ransacked the house and stole the safe containing multiple valuable items, including jewellery.
Umhlali SAPS task team and Umhlali SAPS K9 unit were able to track the suspect and eventually arrested him in Durban.
All stolen items were recovered.
