The KwaDukuza woman was reportedly alerted of the intruder by her five year old daughter’s screams from their kitchen.
It is believed the man first swung the cane knife at the child when the mother jumped in front of her to protect her.

She was badly injured and sustained a gash to her head, a broken arm, broken ankle and multiple wounds.
Her child was unharmed.
The attacker fled and evaded arrest by hiding in the canefields.
KwaDukuza SAPS spokesperson constable Sbusiso Khuzwayo, said the man was arrested near Nonoti this morning.
“The suspect was positively identified by Darnell farm watch members and is currently detained.”
