Double life sentence for Tongaat mother and daughter killer

The bodies of his victims were found in shallow graves at Desainagar Park Avenue.

The man who murdered a Tongaat mother and child late last year was sentenced to two terms of life imprisonment at the Durban High Court on Thursday.
The acting provincial commissioner, lieutenant general Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has welcomed the conviction and sentence of Bongani Bhamuza Gumede(30) who killed 23-year-old Zinhle Ntuli and her five-year-old daughter Snothile on December 18 last year.
The bodies of the mother and her daughter were found in shallow graves at Desainagar Park Avenue in Tongaat after a community member spotted blood on a pathway that led into the bush.
Police officers made the gruesome discovery of the two bodies with open wounds to their heads.
Investigations revealed that the accused killed his victims with a hammer before he buried their bodies in the shallow graves.
Although the accused went into hiding, he was traced and ultimately arrested in Jozini on December 31, 2017.
His bail was successfully opposed and he remained in custody until he was sentenced.
