Hefty sentence for Shakaskraal robbers

The CCTV footage corroborated the eye-witness evidence.

CCTV footage and clever technology led to the conviction of two robbers who were sentenced to more than a decade each for their crimes.

In August 2015, Mkhulu Ngubane (57) and Raymond Msomi (39) robbed a Shakaskraal mini market while holding up the owner and his wife at gunpoint.

CCTV footage from the store was submitted to the forensic science laboratory where a photo album and facial comparison disc was compiled.

This was later compared to photographs of the accused by a facial recognition expert at the criminal record center in Durban.

The CCTV footage corroborated the eye-witness evidence.

Ngubane who was arrested at a funeral in Gauteng was handed a 12-year sentence while Msomi was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
