Teen rapist slammed with 18-year sentence – Ntshawini

The victim was on her way to her friend's house when Nzuza dragged her to a nearby playground.

A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to 18 years behind bars for with three counts of rape, attempted murder, and robbery.

Lungelo Nzuza was sentenced at the Stanger Regional Court last week after he was found guilty for raping a woman in Ntshaweni, near Stanger in January last year.

The court heard that the victim was on her way to her friend’s house when Nzuza dragged her to a nearby playground.

He then demanded that she remove her clothes and when she refused, he stabbed her repeatedly, raped her and fled with her shoes.

Additionally, Nzuza was sentenced to three and four years respectively for charges of assault to cause grievous body harm and theft.

Both sentences will run concurrently with the rape sentence, totaling 18 years imprisonment.

During the trial, young man pleaded not guilty to the rape and maintained that the woman was his girlfriend who willingly consented to sex.

Nzunza had also been serving a previous sentence for another case of rape as well as housebreaking and theft.

These were crimes he committed as a minor.
