UPDATE: Tongaat murder suspect hands himself in

The double murder took place in the Mugwaveni township on 7 October.

A 53-year-old man who allegedly killed a mother and daughter in their home near Fairbreeze in Tongaat last week, handed himself over at the Pietermaritzburg police station on Wednesday.

The man was transferred to Tongaat police station where he will be charged with two counts of murder.

A licensed firearm suspected to be used during the shooting was also recovered.

The double murder took place in the Mugwaveni township on October 7.

The bodies of Nombuso Dube (33) and her mother Mtokozile Dube (70) were found with multiple gunshot wounds.

“They were shot and killed in what is believed to be a domestic related incident,” said SAPS colonel Thembeka Mbele.

“A case of murder was opened at Tongaat police station and detectives began with their investigation which eventually resulted in the arrest of the accused.”

He is expected to appear in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court soon.
