Tavern fight leads to five year sentence – KwaDukuza

The victim was stabbed in the neck.

A night of drinking turned violent when two friends got into a fight, which ended in one fatally stabbing the other.

The KwaDukuza Regional Court heard that two men had been drinking at a tavern when, according to witnesses, the deceased started a fight and attempted to stab Nkululeko Xulu with a knife.

Xulu then disarmed him and stabbed the man in the neck, resulting in an immediate death

Xulu pleaded guilty to a charge of culpable homicide on September 7.

Despite his defense requesting correctional supervision, the state argued that Xulu should be incarcerated until he proved himself to be rehabilitated.

The court agreed with the state and sentenced Xulu to five years behind bars.
