Men rape daughter, return for mother – Tongaat

The three men were sentenced to 18 terms of life imprisonment and 45 years behind bars.

Three men who gang-raped a teenager in front of her brother and later returned to rape her mother were sentenced to 18 terms of life imprisonment and 45 years behind bars last week.

KZN SAPS spokesperson colonel Thembeka Mbele said the men broke into the teenage victim’s Fairbreeze home in Tongaat last year February, where she lived with her nine-year-old brother.

“She was repeatedly gang-raped and robbed of household items at knifepoint.”

Mbele said after a case of rape and robbery were opened, the children’s mother resigned from her job in Johannesburg and returned to Fairbreeze to tend to her two children.

Shortly after her arrival, one of the three men who raped her daughter, broke into their home – this time raping the mother.

“Towards the end of March 2017 while the mother was asleep, one of her daughter’s attackers broke into her house armed with a knife.

“He told her that he came to kill her daughter because they have heard that she opened a case against them.

“When he realized that she was not at home, he repeatedly raped the mother.”

A case was opened at the Dannhauser police station and the trio were arrested three days later.

Siboniso Magnificent Malevu (29), Vusumuzi Sibusiso Zungu (29) and Thokozani Andries Khumalo (30) were each sentenced to five terms of life imprisonment for raping the daughter and 15 years imprisonment for housebreaking and robbery with aggravating circumstances at the Madadeni High Court last week.

Khumalo was given an additional three terms of life imprisonment for raping the mother.
