KwaDukuza murderer jailed for setting his wife alight

He was found smoking in the lounge while his wife screamed for help from their bathroom.

A 38-year-old KwaDukuza resident was sentenced to life imprisonment at the Durban High Court, for the brutal murder of his wife.

Niresh Singh doused his wife with petrol and set her alight at their home in November 2016.

Neighbours heard the woman shouting for help and when they broke into the house, they found Singh sitting in the lounge smoking, with his wife screaming in pain in the bathroom.

KwaDukuza police spokesperson constable Sibusiso Khuzwayo said the man had claimed his wife had committed suicide.

“However, before she died she managed to get the truth out, that it had been her husband who had poured petrol on her and set her alight,” said Khuzwayo.
