Taxi owner gunned down at Tongaat service station

The man was found lying face down with multiple gunshots wounds.

A taxi boss from a Tongaat taxi association was shot and killed at the Shell Garage on Watson Highway in Tongaat this evening.

The 48-year-old man was found lying face down with multiple gunshots wounds, said paramedics.

“It is alleged that the deceased drove into the garage in his BMW and was ambushed by at least two men.

“The gunmen fired a volley of shots at him as he got out of his vehicle,” said Paul Herbst from IPSS Medical Rescue.

Last month, Bongani Mthembu, who was also a taxi owner in Tongaat was gunned down in a drive-by shooting.

He belonged to the Siqalokuhle Taxi Association.

Last September the association also suffered the loss of vice chairman Nicholas Gumede, who was killed in a similar fashion in Tongaat.
