A single mother of 3 was mugged on Salt Rock Road on her way to work this morning.
Octavia Ngonyama (42) was walking to work in Dunkirk Estate at 8.45am when two teenagers mugged her in broad daylight.
“She never walks that road and usually has a lift to and from work due to covid, but today that lift had to drop her at Tiffany’s,” said Chantelle Nicholson, her employer.
She was almost halfway, just after the Sheffield Beach turnoff when two teenagers jumped out of the bushes and stole her phone and wallet.
One of them was wearing a black t-shirt and the other was in a black vest.
“She is a single mother of 3 and really does not need this kind of thing with everything else going on,” said Nicholson.
Dunkirk Estate Security and Marshall Security both did a sweep of the area, but no traces of the teenagers were found.
Amoung other incidents, Salt Rock saw 3 muggings in June 2020, a stabbing in August 2020 and the robbery of Natal Diamonds jewellery store in November.
Umhlali Saps spokesperson, Vinny Pillay said they had increased patrols in the area during the morning and at peak times.
“I believe this is the first case since those patrols began, please remember to always contact Saps when something like this occurs so we can allocate officers accordingly,” said Pillay.
