Thieves strip Groutville High School, assault guards

The robbers took school equipment to the value of about R300 000.

Groutville High School was stripped of electrical appliances after two security guards were held at gunpoint on Friday night.

According to an employee at the school who asked to remain anonymous, the guards were handcuffed and assaulted by a group of 5 men and 2 women who demanded school keys.

They took school equipment to the value of about R300 000.

This included 10 computers, 4 laptops, a projector and 4 televisions.

“They also took cell phones belonging to school pupils and money that was kept in the safe.

Our school sound system was taken and telecom destroyed.” School furniture was damaged and they vandalized the ceiling and walls before leaving.

“As a result, we lost all our school records and this will affect writing of exams in our school.”

KwaDukuza police spokesperson Priya Nunkumar said police were investigating a case of business robbery.
