Alleged Ballito shoplifters captured in highspeed chase on the N2

The alleged shoplifters rolled their car after driving on the wrong side of the road.

A high speed chase along the N2 highway resulted in 3 arrests and a return of R5 000 worth of stolen goods yesterday afternoon.

Two women and a man were flagged for suspicious activity after entering and exiting the Ballito Junction shopping mall on multiple occasions.

The suspects were shown to have returned to their blue Toyota Corolla a number of times with video footage captured by IPSS Security cameras at Shell petrol station.

IPSS officers followed the car as it turned onto the N2 southbound after which a high speed chase ensued.

Around R5 000 worth of stolen household and clothing items were recovered from the car.

“We were initially just monitoring the situation, but when the car noticed the IPSS vehicle it sped off, confirming our suspicions,” said IPSS operations manager, Brennon Knott.

The car was driving erratically, but things turned even more dangerous when after blowing through the Tongaat toll, it began driving against traffic on the wrong side of the road.

IPSS officers followed until the suspects lost control of their vehicle on the onramp from the M65 (which runs from the N2 to King Shaka International Airport) to the N2 northbound.

The suspects were captured while trying to get away and went into custody with the King Shaka International Airport Saps.

R5 000 worth of stolen household items and clothing were found inside the vehicle.
