Pro-Zuma protests continue through the night

Umhlali Saps spokesperson Vinny Pillay confirmed that police were busy dispersing the protests.

Protests continued through the night on major routes from Sibaya through to Durban on the N2 highway.

This followed the blocking of both the N2 south and north at the uMvoti toll plaza, Salt Rock and Ballito on Thursday afternoon.

Protestors were objecting to the arrest of former President Jacob Zuma.

Umhlali Saps spokesperson Vinny Pillay confirmed that police were busy dispersing the protests at the following sites:

  • N2 Northbound at Blackburn Village between Umhlanga and Sibaya. Burning tyres were on the road. This has been cleared.
  • R56 in the vicinity of Foxhill, boulders and rocks on the road.
  • Vehicles were being stoned on the N3 near Pavilion.
  • N2 southbound before M7 protestors blocking the road and lighting fires.
  • N2 northbound closed after Umhlanga/Cornubia offramp opposite Blackburn Township.
  • N2 at the Gateway onramp tyre threads on the fast lane.
  • Stationary vehicle on N2 southbound after the ramp from Sibaya Drive. Left shoulder closed.
  • N2 Northbound closed after the ramp from Umhlanga.
  • Protest action on the N2 in the vicinity of the Richard’s Bay offramp  and Mtunzini Toll.

The M4 between Ballito and Durban is open.

The N2 between Ballito and the King Shaka International Airport is open.

The uMvoti Toll is open and unaffected.
