KwaDukuza Saps teams up with the army to recover looted goods

Police are searching homes to recover items looted during the unrest.

A joint operation between the KwaDukuza police and the South African Defence Force saw a large number of looted items recovered in KwaDukuza last week.

Large scale looting was seen in KwaDukuza CBD and surrounding townships during the recent rioting that was felt across KZN and in parts of Gauteng. 

KwaDukuza police spokesperson, Priya Nunkumar, said Saps were continuing to arrest people in possession of items suspected to be stolen.

“The operations were conducted last week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the KwaDukuza and surrounding areas.

“Items, such as fridges, electric equipment, building supplies and clothes and shoes were recovered.”

KwaDukuza Saps with some of the looted items that they recovered last week.

More than 10 people were arrested for possession of items suspected to be stolen.

During the unrest KwaDukuza Saps had confirmed the arrest of more than 20 people for possession of items suspected to be stolen, 15 for public violence and 3 for possession of unlicensed firearms.

Three people are confirmed to have died and several others were injured.
