The African National Congress’ Ward 4 candidate in KwaDukuza was shot on Saturday while doing door-to-door canvassing for the upcoming local government elections in Shaka’s Head.
Two unknown men opened fire on Jetro Banda and a unidentified man, injuring both, said police.
Banda was rushed to Netcare Alberlito and later moved to another hospital where he remains.

Provincial Saps spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala said no arrests had been made but cases of attempted murder had been opened at Umhlali Saps.
Previously the Shaka’s Head councilor from 1996 to 2016, Banda was ousted after violent protests rocked the township over demands that he be removed.

“He is currently recovering in hospital and is doing well,” said Ntombela.
