Man arrested for brutal murder of Tongaat florist

Krishna Govender (77) was found at his house in a pool of blood with a slit throat.

A 44-year-old man has been arrested for the brutal killing of a Tongaat florist last week Tuesday.

Krishna Govender (77) was found at his house in a pool of blood with a slit throat.

The accused appeared in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court last Friday and was remanded in custody.

He was expected in court again on Tuesday.

Tongaat station commander, colonel Santha Moodley, said police are still investigating.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) spokesperson, Prem Balram, said Govender’s body was discovered by his nephew when he returned home from work.

“The victim was covered in a blanket and a mattress had been placed over him.”

Govender, popularly known as Uncle George, was a self employed florist for nearly 30 years.
