Robber arrested for stabbing holidaymaker at Thompson’s Bay

The robber was arrested and the stolen cellphone found in his possession

A 29-year-old man was arrested for stabbing and robbing a holidaymaker at Thompson’s Bay beach on Wednesday.

Marshall Security director, Tyron Powell, said the 18-year-old holidaymaker from Johannesburg was stabbed twice, once in his back and once in the leg.

The robber fled with the victim’s cellphone but was arrested about an hour later.

“The victim informed one of our guards stationed at Thompson’s Bay, who immediately reported it to our Emergency Dispatch Centre and a description of the suspect was relayed to all our armed response officers in Ballito and Salt Rock.

“He was seen walking on Sable Drive in Ballito and was arrested and the cellphone was found in his possession,” said Powell.

The holidaymaker was taken to hospital by his parents and the robber was delivered to Umhlali Saps.

Umhlali police spokesperson captain Vinny Pillay said the man had been charged with robbery and assault with intent to commit grievous bodily harm.
