Residents of Thembeni and Charlottedale townships are living in fear as two people had been shot and killed and one injured in the past two weeks.
It is reported a taxi travels through the two townships dropping off armed men to break into houses and shops.
Another incident reported in Charlottedale was the shooting at a taxi transporting workers who work the night shift in Ballito.
A source in the area said it could not be confirmed whether the taxi was shot at by people thinking it was carrying armed men, or purely a robbery attempt.
Ward 11 councillor Sicelo Sithole confirmed the presence of a taxi transporting robbers who terrorise the townships.
“The crime is high here and people are now scared to open their doors at night. These men come armed with hammers, so no matter how many burglar guards you have, they simply hammer them out to gain access. The man recently shot in the leg only survived because he opened the door when they knocked and then fought his way out of his house,” said Sithole.
He said he had to drive to a house and rush one resident to the hospital because no one was able or willing to help him.
“People were too scared to come out of their homes.”
KwaDukuza police had not responded by the time of going to print.
