Cash-In-Transit van blown up and robbed in Cottonlands near Hazelmere

The second Cash-In-Transit robbery in a week, following a similar incident in Gingindlovu, near eShowe, last Wednesday.

A Cash-In-Transit (CIT) van was blown up by armed robbers in Cottonlands this afternoon.

The brazen daylight attack saw robbers pull up next to the van in two cars, reportedly opening fire with high caliber rifles.

Once the van stopped on Vincent Dickenson Road, the robbers stole two guns from the drivers and set an explosive to get access to the cash.

The CIT van was shot multiple times before the driver was forced to stop.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), who responded to reports of gunfire, the two cars made a quick escape with the loot.

Security and police are searching for a Toyota Hilux and Hyundai (unknown model).

The CIT robbery was the second in a week after a van was attacked on the R66 between eShowe and Gingindlovu last Wednesday evening.
