Paramedics attacked while assisting at Ballito crash

By the time police arrived, the brawlers had fled.

Five paramedics and a security officer were assaulted on Ocean Drive, Ballito, this afternoon after stopping to assist at a minor accident.

A fight broke out between the motorists involved, and when the IPSS Medical Rescue paramedics and a Marshall Security officer intervened, they were attacked.

The accident, just outside the entrance to Thompson’s Bay beach, had resulted in no injuries.

However emergency responders had attended, including off-duty paramedics who had their families waiting for them in their vehicles.

By the time police arrived, the brawlers had fled the scene.

IPSS Medical Rescue’s Samantha Meyrick condemned the attack.

“Cases of assault will be opened. This is appalling behaviour, fuelled by the consumption of alcohol. It also highlights the risk and dangers first responders often find themselves in,” she said.
