Tongaat crime crackdown on Human Rights Day

Drugs and an 'illegal' legal firearm were seized by cops during three separate operations.

Tongaat Saps had a busy Human Rights Day taking cocaine, heroin and an unlicensed gun off the streets.

On Friday, one suspect was arrested and cops confiscated 21 pieces of rock cocaine (also known as crack cocaine) and 110 capsules of heroin.

Saps Crime Prevention also raided a house in Emona, where they found a licensed firearm in possession of a person without a license to carry a firearm. The legal owner of the firearm was, however, deceased. Ten rounds of live ammunition were also recovered and one person arrested.

In another drug recovery, Saps were patrolling the Tongaat taxi rank when they found 1kg of dagga (marijuana) and 10 heroin capsules, which seemed to have been abandoned. No suspects were arrested, and the drugs were collected by law enforcement.
