Tongaat stabbing victim dies after being rushed to clinic in trolley

The man arrested for the murder was identified as a parolee, who previously served time for murder.

A desperate man pushed his critically injured girlfriend in a shopping trolley to the Tongaat Clinic after she was viciously attacked and disembowelled allegedly by a parolee on Saturday night.

Despite his efforts, she died in hospital on Monday.

The 36-year-old woman had reportedly been waiting outside a shop in the Tongaat CBD when a man approached and demanded sex.

After she rejected him, the attacker pulled out a pocket knife and slashed open her abdomen, exposing her intestines.

Her horrified boyfriend found her lying on the ground. With no time to wait for help, he placed her in a shopping trolley and pushed her to the nearest clinic in a desperate attempt to save her life.

Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesperson Prem Balram said a Rusa officer on patrol was flagged down by the distraught boyfriend on Gopalall Hurbans Road.

The man told the officer that his girlfriend had just been attacked and was dying.

Rusa security officer Jordon Tarr went in search of the attacker and spotted him walking nearby.

When confronted, the man allegedly pulled out a knife and attempted to stab him. Tarr tackled him to the ground, drew his firearm and ordered him to surrender. The man was restrained and arrested on the spot. The weapon was recovered.

“The man was identified as a parolee (50), recently released from prison after being convicted of murder. After handing him over to police, Tarr searched for the injured woman. She was found outside the clinic in a critical condition,” said Balram.

Tongaat police are calling for witnesses to contact Tongaat detectives at 033 945 0099 or 082 469 7097 to speak with warrant officer Moodley.
