Firearms, drugs and scrap seized by police in KwaDukuza and Ndwedwe

The coordinated crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and gun violence locally.

A weekend police blitz across KwaDukuza and Ndwedwe led to multiple arrests for drugs, firearms and illegal scrap trading.

In KwaDukuza, eight people were arrested on Saturday for possession of illegal substances, including rock cocaine, crystal meth, mandrax tablets and other narcotics.

A ninth individual was found with an unlicensed revolver and seven rounds of ammunition. The firearm has been sent for ballistic testing.

A compliance inspection at local scrapyards conducted by KwaDukuza SAPS in collaboration with the Community Policing Forum (CPF) and E2 Partners.

All nine men, aged between 18 and 25, appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrates’ Court on Monday, July 7.

In a separate compliance operation, KwaDukuza SAPS, the Community Policing Forum (CPF), and E2 Partners inspected local scrapyards. A 29-year-old was fined for trading in scrap metal without the certification and unlicensed goods were confiscated.

This weapon had been illegally modified to discharge live rounds.

Meanwhile, iLembe District Saps and supporting agencies arrested two more people in Ndwedwe on Wednesday. A 22-year-old was linked to a housebreaking and theft case, while a 24-year-old was caught with a homemade firearm modified to discharge live rounds.

Both Ndwedwe suspects will appear in court soon as police maintain heightened enforcement across the region.
