iLembe police seize 237 bottles in crackdown on illegal alcohol sales
Six people were found selling alcohol illegally.
iLembe police have vowed to intensify their fight against the illegal sale of alcohol across the district, following a successful operation in the Nsuze policing precinct.
The operation, conducted by Nsuze police on Friday, targeted premises suspected of selling liquor without licences.
During the operation, officers seized more than 172 litres of alcohol from six individuals found dealing in liquor illegally.
A total of 237 bottles were confiscated, including vodka, gin, brandy, wine, beer and ciders.
The suspects, aged between 25 and 45, were each fined for dealing in liquor without a licence and the alcohol was confiscated from their premises.
According to iLembe police communications officer Priya Nunkumar, the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal liquor trading in the district.
“Police will continue conducting high-density operations to enforce the law, disrupt the illicit liquor trade and protect communities from the harmful effects of illegal alcohol distribution,” said Nunkumar.
Police have reiterated that selling alcohol without a licence is illegal. iLembe police urge residents to report illegal liquor outlets as they continue working to ensure compliance with liquor laws and improve community wellbeing.
