A suspected cash-in-transit robber has been found dead after allegedly injuring himself with explosives during a brazen Kranskop heist.
On Monday a group of about 12 armed men used explosives to rob a cash-in-transit vehicle in the Kranskop central business district.
An undisclosed amount of money was taken and three security guards were robbed of their firearms.
It is believed the dead man was injured while setting up the explosives.
His body was discovered on Tuesday inside an abandoned vehicle along a gravel road near the Tugela River, on the route towards Nkandla.
During the robbery, the men reportedly hijacked four vehicles, which were used as getaway cars.
They also fired shots in the direction of a nearby police station, but no officers or members of the public were injured.
KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said a manhunt has been launched for the remaining robbers, who are considered armed and dangerous.
“Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects is encouraged to contact their nearest police station or call the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.
Anonymous tip-offs can also be shared via the MySAPS App,” said Netshiunda.
