Pupil killed during school fight in Isithebe, Mandeni

Three of the suspects are juveniles, while the fourth is an adult.

Four school pupils have been arrested after a 19-year-old pupil was allegedly assaulted and killed at Vusumuzi High School in Isithebe on Tuesday morning.

iLembe police spokesperson Priya Nunkumar confirmed that Sundumbili police have opened a case of murder.

Three of the suspects are juveniles, while the fourth is an adult.

“I can confirm a case of murder has been opened by Sundumbili Saps after a 19-year-old male was fatally assaulted by four school pupils at a local school. The victim was declared deceased at the scene,” said Nunkumar.

According to IPSS Search and Rescue operations manager Phumlani Vezi, emergency services were called to the school following reports of a fight involving a group of pupils.

Vezi said the 19-year-old was allegedly struck in the head during the altercation and was found unconscious.

Despite emergency responders’ efforts, he was declared dead at the scene.

The circumstances surrounding the incident, including what led to the fight, are under investigation.
