Widespread ward boundary changes proposed in KwaDukuza

The changes will be discussed at a public meeting on Thursday (June 12), ahead of confirmation before next year's election.

The KwaDukuza municipality is set to undergo significant ward boundary changes as part of the 2026 Ward Delimitation Process, including the incorporation of parts of Ndwedwe.

These changes, proposed by the municipality and guided by the Municipal Demarcation Board (MDB), aim to ensure similar population size across all 30 wards ahead of the next local government elections.

While the primary goal is to balance ward populations within the MDB’s norms, the proposed adjustments are expected to reshape the political landscape across the municipality. The ward population norm has been set at 5 188 residents, with an acceptable range between 4 410 and 5 966.

A public meeting will be held on Thursday at 10am at the KwaDukuza Town Hall, where residents will have the opportunity to ask questions and submit formal input before final decisions are made.

Key proposed changes include:

• Ward 1 is set to expand by incorporating two voting districts (VDs) from Ndwedwe.

• Ward 3 will absorb the Harry Bodasingh Primary School area, currently under Ward 11.

• Ward 6 (Ballito) is proposed to include Ballito Hills and Wakenshaw Estates, currently part of Ward 22.

• Ward 7 will take in areas from Ward 9 and portions of the Rocky Ridge development from Ward 20. However, some parts of Ward 7 – including the Tinley Manor Primary School VD – will be reassigned to Ward 29.

• Ward 8 will gain Umhlali Quarry and parts of Rocky Ridge from Ward 21, as well as the C1 area of the Shakaskraal Secondary VD from Ward 28.

• Ward 22 will lose Foxhill and the Umhlali town area to Ward 28.

• The Compensation Trading Store will shift from Ward 30 to Ward 28, while part of the C1 (Nkobongo) area will be transferred to Ward 8.
