Fancing his way to fame

Ballito resident Rob Anderson has found a truly quirky way to launch his melodic rock band, Son of Ander.
His hilarious music video City Light, incorporates a unique face dancing, or “fancing” competition for fans.
Anderson, originally from Westville, lived and worked in Johannesburg up until a year ago.“I’ve done the corporate thing,” he said in an interview last Thursday, “I knew when I moved down to Ballito that it was time.”
Singing and performing gripped him from a very young age, but he said he put his head down after going to Tuks university and has been working in the corporate world ever since.
Now he has the means to make a go of it, he’s launching the band in a very unique way, and out of his own pocket.
“It started when I was sitting on the bed listening to one of the tracks, and there was a mirror in front of me,” he said, “I just started moving my face, having fun with it.”
And so “fancing” was born. After a long journey, which you can check out in weekly uploads on the band’s website, Son of Ander has landed up with a ‘must watch’ fance music video, four tracks that you can listen to right now and a competition that encourages fans to submit their own fance moves to compete for great weekly prizes. This will culminate in a “fance-off” grand finale. You can find all of this on the band’s website, www.sonofander.com or take a look at their Facebook page to see some of the fance moves already submitted.
“Some bands tour and record albums and just expect things to happen but I realised that to make it work you’ve got to find a way to push it,” said Anderson.
“Eventually I want to be performing live, that’s what it’s all about. This is my way of getting it all o the ground.”
