New van for Tongaat coastal sector

KZN police commissioner commends the Tongaat SAPS CPF.

The KZN provincial police commissioner recently gave Tongaat SAPS coastal sector community policing forum (CPF) a new van to speed-up their response to crime.
Lt general Betty Mmamonnye handed over the van during her visit to La Mercy on September 3 when he visited the SAPS Tongaat Coastal sector CPF.
The sector comprises of La Mercy, Desainagar, Seatides, Westbrook and the five informal settlements.
Sector manager, warrant officer Manisha Maharaj-Marie told the commissioner about the huge role the CPF played fighting crime in Tongaat.
CPF vice chairman, Jeeva Pillay said the local police were facing a critical problem of van and staff shortages and appealed to Mmamonnye to help in these areas.
“I am not in denial about the fact that the SA Constitution’s promise of safety and security is not being met. However I am pleased to see that the Tongaat community and the police are looking beyond all the challenges and fighting crime together,” said Mmamonnye.
The commissioner acknowledged that there were shortcomings within the SAPS but said she would do her best to address all the concerns raised in the meeting. She said she felt that Tongaat community’s joint effort in community policing should be rewarded.
