The tenth annual Quads4Quads In the Dirt challenge pulled into the Cane Cutters resort on Sunday
afternoon after four days of hard off road riding from Johannesburg.
The challenge, which is organised by the Quad-Para Association of South Africa (QASA) every year to raise funds for quadriplegics, saw some 700 riders on various forms of off road vehicles rough it up for around a thousand kilometres.
The riders arrived at Cane Cutters looking a little battered and bruised but thrilled at the experience.
“Awesome is the word I hear all these guys saying about the ride, but for me it was overwhelming,”
said QASA chairman Ari Seirlis after being helped from his buggy into his wheelchair at the
end of his eighth Quads4Quads ride.
He said that the initiative has been successful in providing help to people in need of mobility and
had given over 70 wheelchairs to the disabled community.
The riders celebrated the completion of the event and many a war story could be heard followed
by the kind of laughter that comes only after a worthwhile challenge, with friends made and experiences shared in good spirits.
The Rotary Club of Zimbali donated four Wheelchairs to QASA at the end of the afternoon to the heartfelt applause of those gathered.
A return ride will leave Cane Cutters on Thursday, October 3.
