Company apologises for illegal dump

Illegally dumping is an ongoing problem in the Ballito area.

A Ballito construction company have apologised for illegally dumping, saying they were unaware of their employees actions.

The Courier was sent a photograph of employees of Big Six Formwork offloading at an illegal dumping site in Chaka’s Rock, behind the old Milton store area near Bloemendaal Floral Farm, by ward 22 councillor Ann McDonnell.
McDonnell suggested that readers send in photographs of other offenders to regularly name and shame people who dump illegally.
Bloemendaal Floral Farm managing director Sean O’Connor, who took the photograph, said that many people regularly dump everything from garden refuse to construction site rubble on the site and that Big Six Formwork were “definitely not the only ones dumping”.
He was fed up with the illegal activity.
Big Six Formwork spokesperson Gina Paterson said “The members of the company were not aware of this being carried out and the employees responsible will be brought to task as they are aware of the correct disposal procedures to follow.”
After a meeting with their staff Paterson reported that according to the responsible employees the photographer approached them and instructed them not to dump there.
As a result they left the area and disposed of the waste correctly.
“Our staff have been instructed to work this Saturday and must clear the area. A photograph will be taken during and afterwards.
“We advise the public of our sincere apologies in regard to this incident and will ensure it does not happen again,” said Paterson.
