A couple was arrested yesterday at King Shaka International Airport after they were found with R6.5 million worth of crystal methamphetamine.
The pair (aged 28 and 29) had touched down in Durban on a flight from India and were arrested in possession of the drugs at around 8pm.
The Durban Organised Crime Unit and customs officials at the airport had profiled the pair and identified them on arrival. They searched their luggage and 36 kilograms of crystal meth was found with an estimated street value of R6.5 million rand.
Police carried out a follow-up operation and arrested a 36-year-old female in the Point area in Durban on Tuesday night. The woman was waiting to receive the delivery of the seized drugs.
ACSA brand manager Colin Naidoo praised the good work the authorities had done.
“We are glad that this is happening and that we are preventing drugs coming through our port of entry,” he said.
All three suspects are in custody for dealing drugs. They will appear in court during the week.
