Change up for Ballito Neighbourhood Watch
Increasing numbers of vagrants in town, vehicle break-ins and credit card skimming.

The Ballito Neighbourhood Watch welcomed some new faces and announced its new committee members for 2014 at their AGM last Tuesday.
Among the main issues raised were an increase in the numbers of vagrants in town, vehicle break-ins, credit card skimming, as well as the Watch’s involvement in the community.
Chairman Rob Hardstone said he was pleased with the increase in members this year.
“I am delighted to announce that we now have a total of 67 households and we still have some more new members in the pipeline,” he said.
The group plans to donate neighbourhood watch signs to all its paying members. Hardstone also noted the effect that the Neighbourhood Watch car stickers were having.
“Apart from making the public aware that we are patrolling in Ballito, it also encourages new membership,” he said.
During the year the Watch painted house numbers on roads as well as repainting the SAPS offices in Umhlali. House numbers have been painted on Madeleine Drive, Cecelia Close, Michelle Drive and Freda Avenue.
Hardstone also raised the issue of street lighting as a cause for concern as the busy holiday season approaches.
Ward six councillor Colin Marsh stressed that the KwaDukuza municipality is in the process of urgently appointing a new contractor.
The ten nominated committee members are Gary Frances, Michelle Mann, Chris Lambson, Heike Lothian, Tim Bamber, Nigel Mushet, Sally Homes, Rob Hardstone, Fiona Sjolander and Kappie Smal.
The next meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 19 at the Dolphin Coast Striders clubhouse.
