Umhlali SAPS crime round up

A man was charged with murder after shooting an intruder.

The following crimes were reported to Umhlali SAPS over the weekend:
Late on Sunday night, a resident in Shayamoya shot an intruder trying to break into his house. He was charged with murder, while the deceased was charged with housebreaking and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
A man was stabbed in the chest in Nkobongo on Sunday evening. Community members handed over a suspect to police.
On Sunday morning a woman was taken to Stanger hospital after her ex-boyfriend stabbed her in Shayamoya. She had lodged a complaint against him earlier that morning and an officer had allegedly warned the man to stay away from her.
Two men hijacked a man near Sheffield Gardens at midnight on Saturday. He had stopped at a four-way stop when he was attacked. The vehicle was recovered.
Two Hilux bakkies were stolen early on Saturday morning at Salt Rock main beach. Both vehicles were later recovered.
Police found a 25-year-old man dead near Compensation railway station on Saturday morning. He had stab wounds to his chest.
Vukani Investments in Tongaat was broken into through the ceiling on Saturday night.
A woman was raped in Nkobongo on Saturday as she was walking towards her aunt’s house. Two men grabbed her and forced her onto the side of the road. They tried to strangle her after she was raped but she pleaded for her life and they ran away.
Electronics were stolen from a house on Jacqueline drive on Saturday, valued at R37 000. The front door had been forced open.
A man woke up with a burglar in his room on Friday night on Minerva Road. After the thief ran away, the holiday-maker found cameras, clothing, wallet and cash valued at R47 000 were stolen.
A back window was forced open in a house break-in on Madelaine drive overnight on Friday. Cash, a watch, bags and a cellphone were stolen.
Another break-in occurred on Minerva Road on Friday night. The intruders broke in through a bathroom window and made off with jewellery, a laptop, a tablet and cash valued at R43 500.
Umhlali SAPS arrested one person for disturbing the peace, one for culpable homicide, one for reckless and negligent driving, one for road traffic violations, one for violating a protection order, 14 for drinking in public, five for possession of dangerous weapons and one person for possession of marijuana.
