You know who to call… Red Frogs!
The Red Frogs are famous for their red frog sweets, lifting people home after parties and making free pancakes.
A volunteer organisation dedicated to helping youngsters get home safe from big party events will be in Ballito during matric Rage for its ninth year since its inception in 2005.
The Redfrogs are now well known in Ballito. Matrics have come to know and trust them as they move around distributing their famous red frog sweets, lifting people home and making free pancakes.
The organisation now operates on a national level at matric holiday destinations, music festivals and universities.
“Ballito is where it all started. In 2005 myself and a few mates decided one night to help out. Back then we were called Beach House, it was just a couple of guys and a combie,” said Red Frogs national co-ordinator, Paul Rowney.
The group carried on like this for a few years, gaining members and volunteers, and in 2008 they discovered the original Red Frogs group, operating in Australia.
“Red Frogs in Australia heard about us and gave us their support,” said Rowney.
“They told us we could call ourselves whatever we want, so we decided to also be Red Frogs.”
The Red Frogs have around 250 volunteers, mostly between the age of 18 and 25 years, who are trained to assist party goers however possible.
“The community really helped us grow in Ballito. Businesses have really come on board sponsoring us, the BP always gives us free petrol and families help with cooking meals.”
“Safe-guarding a generation” is the Red Frogs’ mantra, and according to Rowney, the positive presence the group has at these events is palpable.
“Guys can contact us for anything, whether someone needs to get to the hospital or just needs a lift home. The number is 076-REDFROG (076 733 3764).”
