Living the ‘funsunzi’ life
East Coast Radio managing director Trish Taylor.
She “wo-mans” the country’s biggest independent radio station and she calls the North Coast her paradise.
East Coast Radio managing director Trish Taylor hails has swapped her Mount Edgecome home for a piece of heaven at Simbithi Eco Estate.
“My parents are from Salt Rock and it feels wonderful to be back. The place has changed considerably since I was last around, which is great to see. Working in the hustle and bustle of Umhlanga, I am grateful to come home to the tranquillity of Simbithi every afternoon.”
Trish took over the reins at East Coast Radio 10 years ago and the station has grown in leaps and bounds under her leadership, developing major events like Toy Story, Durban Day and the Big Walk.
“What makes ECR special is that we are part of everyone’s family, from the morning school run to the afternoon drive home. Our success is down to a formidable team living what we call the ‘funsunzi’ life. Our province is beautiful and we love showing it off.”
The confident woman said no two days at the station are alike and she spends much of her time listening to her listeners.
“We place great emphasis on being part of the fabric of KwaZulu-Natal. Managing ECR entails preparing for the unexpected and coming up with strong strategies to improve our product.”
Trish is also an accomplished endurance athlete, having completed nine Comrades Marathons and three IronMan events.
Currently training for her 10th Comrades, Trish said her first race was the Dolphin Coast 21.
“I am still easing into running on the North Coast but I find it calming and therapeutic. Runs here are so beautiful because the area is rich in nature. I bump into all sorts of animal and birdlife!”
