Girl power at Ashton

An incredible 100% pass rate.

Ashton International College Ballito class of 2013 has achieved a 100% pass rate, with its top four pupils raking in 26 distinctions.
Fifty-six pupils, Ashton’s biggest class to date, sat for their Independent Examinations Board (IEB) senior certificate exams in November.
Eight pupils were awarded ‘A’ averages with 52 pupils earning a bachelor’s degree pass, making them eligible for university. In total, 98 ‘A’ symbols, 108 ‘B’ symbols and 110 ‘C’ symbols were achieved.
Ashton’s top pupil Hayley Schruer, who was awarded the Dux last year, achieved distinctions in English, Afrikaans, mathematics, physical sciences, life sciences, life orientation and accounting, with an aggregate of 86.85%.
Speaking to the Courier from her holiday in Mozambique a rather “chilled” Hayley said she was pleased with her results.
“I was not sure if I would get an A for maths, so I am really happy I did. There is no secret formula to getting good results – just stay calm and do not let your work build up. Work on something the minute it is assigned.”
Hayley plans to study occupational therapy at the University of Stellenbosch this year.
Coming in a close second was 2013 Proxime Accessit and deputy head girl Megan Schulze with distinctions in English, Afrikaans, life sciences, history, accounting, mathematical literacy and life orientation.
Megan will also attend the University of Stellenbosch, studying for a Bcomm LLB.
Other top performing pupils included Monique Morrison and head girl Angelique de Agrela with six distinctions, Kilisia Moodley with five distinctions and Obadiah Bentley, Heyden Honeysett and Ashvan Jayramsingh with four distinctions.
Ashton academic head and senior college deputy head Jenny van Buuren, who was the 2013 examinations officer, is thrilled.
“Special mention must be made of the girl power! Our top four girls did us extremely proud. We are confident that the pupils have been holistically prepared for life after school, as they have been provided with quality training.”
