Woken in the middle of the night by what may have been a burglar, an act of malice or a unusual accident, a terrified North Coast couple are upset by the lack of help from local police.
Reena Kalidin and her husband were asleep in their home in Doctorskop, just outside Stanger, when they were woken up by a loud bang around 1.20am this morning.
“My husband switched the lights on and went into the lounge. When he moved the curtains he saw the window was bust and a metal rod was sticking out through it,” she said.
Kalidin called the KwaDukuza SAPS emergency line and relayed the incident.
“An hour later nobody had pitched so we called again. By 3.30am, we were still waiting.”
On the third phone call Kalidin was told that the station was short-staffed, there were no vehicles available and she would have to come to the station to report the incident.
Her husband now has to take time off work to go to the station.
KwaDukuza SAPS media liaison constable S’busiso Khumalo said the incident would have to be investigated before he could comment.
“If the resident feels she has been treated unfairly by the SAPS, she is more than welcome to lodge a complaint through the correct channels.”
