Ex lover allegedly stabs woman to death

A plea to help this Ballito waitress' two children.

A Ballito coffee shop owner is determined to help two children whose mother, Patricia Gumede (26), is believed to have been stabbed to death by a former boyfriend at her parent’s home in Dendethu, outside Stanger, on Friday evening.
Gumede was woking as a waitress at for Haley de Charmoy at Cinnamon & Silk in Ballito and she rented a place in Nkobongo to be closer to work.
She was visiting her family in Dendethu when the father of her son (5) came to see her last Friday.
“He asked if they could talk outside and since they had done that often we did not see any problem with it,” said Gumede’s sister, Nomusa.
Nomusa said they had been talking for less than half an hour when she heard her sister screaming “I am dying, somebody help me please!”
Gumede’s parents and her two sisters quickly rushed outside and found her sister holding her stomach where she was bleeding.
“I looked at her ex boyfriend and saw that he was holding a knife. When I tried to grab him he fled and my other sister and I ran after him but we could not catch him,” said Nomusa.
Patricia died before the ambulance could get to her. Nomusa said they were devastated. Gumede was the main breadwinner with only her father’s pension to supplement the household income.
“We really do not know what to do because she left behind two kids, which she was raising single handed,” said Nomusa.
According to KwaDukuza SAPS spokesperson, constable Sibusiso Khumalo a case for the murder of Gumede has been opened and no arrests had been made.
De Charmoy has vowed to help the family cover the cost of raising her children, including paying rent for them for a year.
“I have started a web campaign and so far we have raised R6 000 but we also looking for food and clothes for the children,” said De Charmoy.
She said she wanted to help Patricia’s sister find jobs so that there would be some money going to the family because the money raised will not be handed directly to the family.
“I will buy all items of need on the children’s behalf. I am also appealing to anyone who can donated toys, clothes and stationery to drop them of at Cinnamon & Silk,” said De Charmoy.
