More than 130 runners tackle KZN Coastal Series finale in Blythedale

Distances of 5km, 11km and 18km catered for both experienced trail runners and newcomers.

The KZN Trail Running 2026 Coastal Series wrapped up in Blythedale last Sunday, with more than 130 runners taking part in the final event of the season.

Participants gathered at Grumpy’s Bush and Beach Bar before tackling routes through the Blythedale Forest. Distances of 5km, 11km and 18km catered for both experienced trail runners and newcomers.

All routes finished at Grumpy’s, where supporters created a lively atmosphere. In the man’s categories Ryan van Rooyen claimed top honours in the 18km in 1:18:24.

Kieran Lampret was the fastest over 11km, finishing in 50:29, while Wesley Carpenter won the 5km race in 29:36.

In the women’s races, Tarryn Erasmus won the 18km event in 1:28:02. Calleigh Lampret topped the 11km category in 52:56, while Thembekile Mthimunye crossed the line first in the 5km race with a time of 36:48.

Event co-ordinator Dane Garvie said the series was about more than competition.

“It was a celebration of the outdoors, community spirit and the natural environment that makes Blythedale a popular trail-running destination,” he said.

Garvie said it was encouraging to see the camaraderie among participants throughout the morning.


“There were families and friends supporting one another along the route, and even a few four-legged companions joining in on the adventure.”

He thanked runners, supporters, volunteers, Grumpy’s and Funky Pants for helping make the event a success.

The trail running series returns to Blythedale in September.
