Dog poisoning case postponed
Man accused of poisoning a neighbor's dog will appear in court again on May 15.
A man accused of poisoning his neighbour’s dogs appeared at the Umhlali Periodical Court this morning.
The case was postponed until May 15, pending further police investigation.
Amir Abbas found his dog poisoned in his driveway on January 18 and caught the crime on his security camera (‘ Homeowner’s dogs poisoned’, Courier, January 24).
The video shows six sausages being thrown over the gate and Abbas’ dog, Bella, eating the sausages and dying shortly after.
This was not the first time one of Abbas’ dogs had been poisoned, another was found to have been poisoned in January last year. That dog, Tyke, survived the poisoning but died in March last year due to injuries sustained from a firecracker exploding in his mouth, according to Abbas. The firecracker was also allegedly thrown over the wall into the property.
According to Abbas, a neighbour threw the sausages over his gate. He has pressed charges of damage to property and animal cruelty against him. There are two counts of each of these charges, one of each for Bella and Tyke’s death respectively.
The accused declined to comment after the court hearing, and hid his face from photographs.
