Yummy mummies strut their stuff

The Quarter was overflowing with beautiful ladies on Saturday.

Forty-two Ballito fashionistas strutted down the catwalk at The Quarter shopping centre on Saturday morning.

The Yummy Mummy beauty pageant was organised by Simply Younique’s owner Karen Landman, who believes this kind of event helps women rediscover their identity.

“I am trying to teach girls confidence and help the older ladies regain their confidence and feeling of self-worth,” she said.

The pageant had categories for all ages to take part, including Glam Gran, Miss Unique, Miss Teen Unique, Miss Buttercup, Miss Lollipop and Little Miss Cupcake.

The event was not all about beauty, as funds were raised to buy gifts for the mothers at the Westbrook Retirement Village.

“We will be going to the village to spoil all the grannies there on Mother’s Day.”

The pageant really was a family affair with stalls selling delicious food and goods and the band, Red Light Stereo rocked up a storm. Customers of the Quarter’s shops were able to put their receipts into a draw to win some of the awesome prizes.

The winner of Mrs Yummy Mummy was Angelique Wright while second princess was Elaine Naidoo and third princess went to Clare Swithenbank-Bowman.

A very proud 70-year-old Marianne Sarafidis beat the competition to take home the Glam Gran prize. Elizabeth Venter was the winner of Miss Unique. Miss Teen Unique went to Caitlin Sutherland and Miss Buttercup was Brittney Wernich. In the younger categories, Miss Lollipop went to Tiara Peters, while little Miss Cupcake went to Daniella.
