KwaDukuza karatekas off to Japan
Karatekas head off to Tokyo to compete in an international tournament.
Eight KwaDukuza martial art fighters jetted off on Tuesday to compete in Kyokushin Iko 2014, an international friendship tournament in Tokyo, Japan.
The Kyokushin Iko tournament is a Japanese traditional event that is held every ten years.
The team will be lead by senior fighter, Fisokuhle Mhlongo (35) who has competed in various international tournaments including Kuwait and championed the Open Russian Cup in 2001 The KwaDukuza municipality is funding a portion of the fighters’ trip.
KwaDukuza mayor Ricardo Mthembu hosted a send-off for the team on Tuesday morning.
“Nothing breeds success like success.We are now assured that we have a strong team of fighters who will place us on the global map. We are confident that they have the potential to do battle against international heavyweights,” said Mthembu.
The karatekas will face their competition on Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19.
