‘The Voice’ wows at Orphan Fund concert

R23 000 for local orphans and vulnerable children.

The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund received a phenomenal boost last week with a packed out show at the Pumpkin Theatre in Ballito.

If you had closed your eyes for a moment, you would have been forgiven for thinking that all the great voices of our time had been transported to the Pumpkin Theatre for a once in a lifetime show.

Ballito’s own Danny Fisher demonstrated why his show is so aptly named ‘The Voice’; with incredible skill he brought the likeness of Elvis, Rod Stewart, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Bill Medley, Kenny Rogers, Nat King Cole and even Meatloaf to life.

Thanks to the generosity of Danny Fisher, who donated his performance, and the audience, the show brought in R23,000.

Orphan Fund secretary Rose Stephenson expressed her delight at the whole evening coming together so well. “It is sometimes humbling to be on the receiving end of such generous, enthusiastic support from our community. It makes me glad to live where we live, surrounded by friends who ‘come to the party’ and support the Orphan Fund’s efforts to raise money for vulnerable children of our area. The service clubs too must be commended. They work hard themselves raising money for the less fortunate but are not shy about coming forward when a request is made of them.

The Orphan Fund, now in its 11th year, has raised over R2.2 million so far, to assist organisations, churches and NGOs in their efforts to take care of orphans. Another role the fund takes on is to raise awareness of the plight of children who have very difficult tragic lives, through no fault of their own.”
